L’Uzine Foundation, Casablanca Cultural Space Hosts Concert Series May 2019

L’Uzine Foundation promotes diversity.

From May 10th to June 2nd, the L’Uzine Foundation, a multi-dimensional cultural space supporting artists, actors, and creative projects will host a series of concerts and workshops in their Casablanca center.

Included in the month-long program is a DJ set by Abderrahman Elhafid, also known as Mr. ID (May 11th).  Mr. ID, a Casablanca native incorporates tones from Moroccan culture into his music sets,  he is also influenced by US rap, Jazz, and Funk. On the same day, L’Uzine will also host a graffiti workshop by artist Ayoub Basec and a gardening workshop to learn the basics of urban agriculture.

On May 12th,  Looking For My Husband’s Wife, a film set in Fes about Hadj Ben Moussa, one of the richest jewelers in the souk will be shown. Hadj falls in love with a woman who the Koranic law forbids him to marry. The rest of the month is filled with music: Gnoua Electric by Hassan Boussou (May 18th); a Moroccan Symphony orchestrated by Dir Kamal Kamal (May 19th); and a closing concert by L’Orchetre Des Aveugles ( June 2nd). Most workshops and concerts are free and open to the general public.

The L’Uzine Foundation holds many cultural events including plays, film screenings, dance shows, conferences, exhibitions, circus, masterclasses, and international festivals. Their goal is to promote sharing the skills of artists and emerging talent and to create an environment to support students to work in groups, rehearse, try internships, and find mentors.

L’Uzine is supported by The Touria and Abdelaziz Tazi Foundation, an association created in June 2013. Abdelaziz Tazi, the founder of the Richbond group, was a Moroccan independence activist who invented the Tazi brush and the polyurethane foam, material used for all sofas in Moroccan salons. Tazi passed on October 19th, 2017 at the age of 91.
