Moroccan Director Mohamed Zineddiaine took home 4 awards for his film “La Guerissuese” (The Healer) at the 20th National Tangier Film Festival. A total of 30 films competed in the annual March Tangier Film Festival. “La Guerissuese” tells the story of a boy living on the outskirts of Morocco who is trying to learn how to read and write. Fatima Atif, who won the category of Best Actress at the festival and plays the boy’s mother, forbids him from getting an education. “La Guerissuese” also won The Jury’s Prize, Best Production, and Best Actor for Medhi Laaroubi. “I never expected to win one award, let alone four” said Zineddiaine. The film was important to the director as he identifies with the boy’s character. Zineddiaine grew up in the village of Oued-Zem and was up absorbed by books.
