Mounia Amor, La Harmonia

On April 2, 2020, the SOART Gallery Casablanca will host an exposition by Mounia Amor Cheikh Lahlou. The Fes born self-taught artist has yet to reveal what she will present however it is likely to be a reflection of her most recent work featured at the Le Chevalet art space. Her works entitled “La Harmonia” includes approximately forty canvases that demonstrate her abstract style, cubic forms, luminous brushstrokes, musical notes, and floral themes that evoke the sensation of spring. La Harmonia demonstrates Lahlou’s ability to make colors dance in unison and bewitch the viewer with their graceful impressionistic imprints.

The Harmonia exhibit corresponded to Lahlou’s 15-year milestone as an artist, exhibiting an anthology that culminates in Lahlou’s favorite themes, which serve as a tribute to women.

Lahlou’s journey to becoming a painter is a global story. She left Morocco and moved to France to study pharmacy, however, after the birth of her second son in 1995, she felt a calling to paint again. She had dabbled in painting during her youth but never realized her abilities. Upon deciding to return to the canvas, Lahlou took courses under the instructive eye of painter Ahmed Mourabit. Once she gained confidence in her work, she took to her Casablanca studio workshop and began to paint with consistency and intention. Her first exhibition was held in Essaouira in 2000.
