Tangier is Morocco’s northernmost city and is located a forty-minute ferry ride from  Tarifa, Spain. Since it’s International Zone Period (1924-1956) when nine European Countries governed it, the Bride of the North has inspired filmmakers, writers from the Beat Generation, and artists to settle in and create their masterpieces. Among the many films that have taken place in Tangier is Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Sheltering Sky (1990). It is based on Paul Bowles novel and tells the story of a couple traveling through Morocco.
