The Moroccan-Polish brand Meqnes launches leather products with Moroccan-inspired geometric patterns. This new, chic company started with its unique laptop sleeves that are handcrafted from premium, top-grain Italian leather. Each is exclusively lined with the brand’s signature and a Moroccan-inspired geometric pattern, offered in several vibrant colors. The brand pays homage to Meknes, the Imperial city in Morocco, known for its colorful ceramic tiles with geometric patterns, bustling souks, mosques, and thousand-year-old Roman ruins.

The inspiration for Meqnes began many years ago in Meknes, Morocco. Co-founder Kamal Jahid claims to have “learned from his impeccably stylish grandfather that the right suit and accessories can give you not only a head-turning look,” but the confidence to follow your goals and dreams. Jahid went to Europe as a student intern, bouncing from Krakow, to Berlin, to Paris before settling in Warsaw. Along the way, he slowly built his empire as a personal stylist, entrepreneur and author.

Meqnes’ other co-founder, David Liebers is from New York and went to Poland to work in human rights, then returned to the United States to obtain a degree at Harvard Medical School. He is currently doing his residency in psychiatry at New York University while developing his interest in fashion and design; which has been a passion for over a decade.

Kamal Jahid and David Liebers met on Warsaw’s Nowy Swiat Street through mutual friends, and quickly bonded over mutual interests like psychology and men’s fashion.

A trip to the Moroccan desert served as their main inspiration for Meqnes, where, amid the intoxicating sights, sounds and aromas of the medina, they (re-) discovered Moroccan leather and the tradition of handmade leather goods. Their Moroccan desert experience provided for a surprising yet elegant pop of color line inside each Meqnes case.

The two have branched out from laptop covers to offer a variety of leather accessories ranging from iPhone cases, travel bags, card holders, silk scarves, key rings, belts, and desk pads. They decided to use their  aesthetic sensibility and army of artisans to elevate everyday objects into works of art.

Meqnes travel bags and accessories are made of snake embossed Italian leather, available in rich colors, and can be personalized with elegant gold embossed lettering.

Meqnes is an homage to Meknes, often referred to as the Versailles of Morocco, Meknes  is located between the fertile plain of Rharb and the Middle Atlas. The historical importance of Meknes is reflected in its grand Moorish buildings and in Meknes’ close relationship with Volubilis, a nearby city known as the most important archeological site in Morocco.

The collection of the brand Meqnes represents the same attention to detail and quality craftsmanship. Boasting a minimalist design, it offers maximum functionality as well as quick and easy access to the device. Each Meqnes product has a hidden magnetic closure that provides security and keeps the case and computer free of scratches. Due to the high-quality leather materials, the sleeve is guaranteed to age beautifully over time.

Just as when Kamal would take one of his grandfather’s vintage travel bags with him, he found he and David attracted looks of appreciation. This is what sparked the idea of Meqnes. Everyone seemed to love the bags so they thought, “why not offer them to the world?”

Meqnes represents a true collaboration since Poland produces some of Europe’s finest leather. They decided to place the Moroccan designs together with Europe’s highest quality leather and parts. They worked closely with Moroccan leather artisans to design vintage-style luxury bags that offer a taste of what it means to shop the Souks of Morocco.
