Morocco, Africa’s Rising Star is Advancing in Global Economy

Morocco may not be flush with oil resources however the country cleverly positions itself   by using ingenuity to rise within the global economy. Morocco’s advances in agriculture, tourism, mining, manufacturing industries, automotive and aeronautics have helped it become a key player in Africa’s economy.

Morocco, as of recent has also received more attention globally and the country is on its way to becoming an international financial and manufacturing hub. The 2019 World Bank Ease of Doing Business Report placed Morocco at 60th place, in 2017 it was at 67th. The same year the World Bank recognized Morocco to be the top producer in Africa’s automotive industry. Morocco produced 345,000 cars in 2017, surpassing even South Africa’s numbers.

Observations in Morocco’s preparation for it’s new position includes a decision to use French language when teaching maths, science and technology subjects. It also launched Africa’s first bullet train from Tangier to Casablanca and Morocco’s King continues to make Morocco the safest place for travel in Africa. In 2018, 12.3 million tourists were reported to visit Morocco, more than any other African country.

Morocco also maintains great relations with the international powers and has a long standing relationship with the United States. It signed the US-Morocco Treaty of Friendship in 1787, supports the Free Trade Agreement alongside 55 countries and King Mohammed VI rejoined the African Union (AU) in 2017.

“Today, we are witnessing the dawn of a new revolution – one in which we seek to rise to the challenge of completing the construction of modern Morocco; a revolution through which we aim to give Moroccans the place they deserve in life, especially our young people, whom I always regarded as the country’s true wealth, ” spoke King Mohammed VI at the 65th Anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People.

The King is forward-minded and his goal is to make Morocco’s economy strong and advance the country in the science and technology sectors.
