Morocco To Receive 9 New Conservatories

Theatre goers in Morocco have caught on that 2019 is a promising year for music and arts. In January, Mohamed El Aaraj, Morocco’s Ministry of Culture and Communication gave a speech at the National Symposium on Arts Education; he expressed the need for the Moroccan Ministry to support the arts.

Morocco To Build 9 Music Conservatories. The Ministry aims to strengthen the cultural policy.

On May 14th, National Theater Day in Morocco, Aaraj’s intentions were recognized when the Ministry of Culture announced plans to improve theater spaces in fourteen cities. There will be a special focus on music conservatories. From Tangier to Rissani in Southern Morocco, nine music conservatories will be constructed. The large scope of expensive initiatives aims to train more musicians and artists as well as strengthen Morocco’s cultural policy.

There is also discussion of a national playbill to be written. It will cover the scope of the entire Kingdom’s cultural and entertainment centers.

The timing of the announcements was in honor of the national holiday. Since the establishment of the French Protectorate, the theatre has been enjoyed in Morocco. Officially, Theater Day has roots 1992 with a proclamation from King Hassan II.
