Morocco’s national football team the Atlas Lions are gearing up to take home the grand title at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The games will take place in Egypt between June 21st – July 19th, 2019 and French coach Hervé Renard has called upon 27 elite Moroccan players from various clubs to represent the northern kingdom. Renard has voiced his sentiments that he feels optimistic about this year. The Atlas Lions qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and his team members are strong.

During the month of May 2019, Renard took to his Twitter account congratulating many of the Moroccan players. He vocalized, “Congratulations to our players Ajax H.Ziyech, N.Mazraoui and Z.Labyad for their title of champion of the Netherlands. Ajax H. Ziyech, Mazraoui N. and Z. Labyad for their Eredevisie Champion title! Congratulations to Moroccans players N. Amrabat & A. Hamdallah champions of Saudi Arabia. Mr. Benatia & Y. El Arabi winners of the Qatar Emir Cup and Y. Belhanda Turkish Cup winner, congratulations!”
The Atlas Lions will begin AFCON playing against Nambia. Later they are staged to match against Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa, and Namibia in Group D.
As of June 4th, 2019, the Atlas Lions relocated to the Maamoura Football Centre in Sale for field practice. On June 12th, 2019 they will return to Marrakech to play a match against Gambia’s team in Marrakech. On June 16th, 2019 they will play Zambia.
