Scarlett Johansson Spotted in Tangier While Shooting the Film, Black Widow

The cast for the upcoming American superhero film, Black Widow, was spotted in Tangier shooting while shooting the movie. Filming started in May 2019 in Norway. Before shooting in Morocco footage was taken in England, Hungary, and Macon, Georgia. The 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 1, 2020. It will star Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff. Romanoff will play the Black Widow. Johansson described the film as “an opportunity to explore the Widow as a woman who has come into her own and is making independent and active choices for herself, probably for once in her life.” She will perform alongside castmates  David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz. The film is directed by Cate Shortland and written by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson. Tangier is Morocco’s northernmost city and is located a forty-minute ferry ride from the Tarifa, Spain.

Since 1924-1956, when nine European Countries governed it Tangier, as the International Zone, the city has inspired filmmakers, writers from the Beat Generation, and artists to settle in and create masterpieces.   Bernardo Bertolucci’s, The Sheltering Sky (1990), is one of the many films that was shot in Tangier. It is based on Paul Bowles novel and tells the story of a couple traveling through Morocco. Tangier is also known for hosting an international film festival. The 17th edition film will take place from September 30-October, 2019 and showcase sixty short films from twenty-two countries  There will be fourteen French titles, and five coproductions with Albania, Algeria, Lebanon, Croatia, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia, and Turkey.
