Two-Time Grammy Nominee Concha Buika will be gracing Tangier with a performance on September 21, 2019. The Spanish born singer has a rich Mediterranean inspired voice and fuses American jazz, South American flamenco, with traditional African music.

In a concert review, one of her fans wrote “Buika entered and created a space of so much joy and deep human connection. Every song went through her body first, she paused to feel what the musicians were saying with their instruments and talent, and then she stepped in. Magical is Buika.”

The Mallorca born songstress comes from a family of writers. This background has served as a strength. She has become known to use her skills to capture the perfect phrases and words in her jazz repertoire. Buika fans are also fond of how she reconstructs her music pieces and imbues them with vibrant energy. Her 2009 Album El Ultimo Trago is one of best examples of this talent. The record incorporates the work of musicians like Ecuadorian composer Bendavides and Mexican singer-songwriter Jose Alfredo Jimenez. Other notable achievements in her singing career include a 2008 Latin Grammy Album of the Year nomination for Nina de Fuego. In 2014, she also received a Best Jazz Album nomination for Noche Mas Larga at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.

Buika has been compared to Nina Simone, Chavela Vargas, Cesaria Evora, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf, and Amy Winehouse. She is 47 years old.

The venue for Buika’s performance is still undecided, however, is slated to be held in Tangier, Morocco.
