Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto, the president of Mosdot Shuva Israel, based in Ashdod, Israel and New York, has been appointed as the new Chief Rabbi of Morocco. Pinto has strong ties to Morocco; he is the descendent of the rabbi of Essaouira Haim Pinto (1746-1845) and has lived in Morocco since 2017. Casablanca‘s regional governor officiated the ceremony to confirm Pinto’s appointment. The event was celebrated with senior government officials, and leaders of the Jewish community in attendance.
