The Handicraft industry in Morocco contributes to 7 % of the GDP and employs 2.3 million people, roughly 20% of the Moroccan labor force. At the moment there is no legal framework for the craft sector and a new Moroccan bill hopes to change this. The bill will require artisans, cooperatives, and companies to register with the national database and get an artisanal diploma. Upon successful registration they will receive an identification card stating their organization, school, or company and respective skills. If the bill is passed, professional blocs on the local, provincial, regional, and national levels will be created for each trade and this will build relationships and collaborations between artists and local vendors. The bill will also help guarantee safety and health criteria for artisans.
