On November 7, 2018, at the Pan Africanism in the Congo, King Mohammed VI renewed his message that Moroccan roots are African. He confirmed that Morocco will support the continent in its geopolitical and domestic challenges.

“I firmly intend to make Morocco a key player in shaping the Africa of the future. Moreover, our ambition is to increase the volume of trade with other African countries, to boost Morocco’s investments in the continent and to launch a new phase based on mutual benefit. The achievement of these goals hinges on the fulfillment of Morocco’s commitments as well as on expanding our presence in Africa.

Among the many things the King addressed was the historical importance of the Western Sahara. He affirmed that the disputed territory will remain autonomous and explained it is important to Morocco’s presence in African affairs. “The Moroccan Sahara is the gateway to sub-Saharan Africa. It is important in making Morocco a key player in shaping the Africa of the future,” said the King.
