Morocco is a key player in global food exportation. In 2018, watermelon exports earned the Northern Kingdom 107 million euros. According to data from the Statistics Division of the United Nations (UN), this is 295% more than in previous years. Furthermore, Morocco’s watermelon statistics even surpassed those of Spain’s, the worlds largest watermelon exporter. In 2018, Moroccan watermelons sold for 0.69 Euro/kilo compared to 0.5 Euro per kilo for Spanish watermelons.
Morocco’s Watermelon Exports Soar By 295%
Beyond watermelons, Morocco came in 9th as the largest food exporter to the United States. The USA imported 1 billion dollars of canned food, fruits, and vegetables for 2018. The three categories make up 85% of American food imports.
