The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations, celebrated 50 years on December 12, 2019. It’s 57 member states aim to serve as a “collective voice for the Muslim world, protect the Muslim community, and promote international peace and harmony.” The organization’s establishment in Rabat was inspired on the 12th Rajab 1389 Hijra (25 September 1969) after the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem was set on fire.
The event theme was “Morocco: Modernization and Action.” Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, the chairman of the Al Quds Committee – an offset of OIC- sent a message to be read by Nasser Bourita, the minister of foreign affairs.
In attendance were representatives of the Islamic Summit (Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and The Gambia), the ministerial troika (Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates and Niger), ministers and other leaders from the Islamic world.
