On February 29, 2020, the Marrakech E-Prix Formula Race will take place at the Circuit Moulay El Hassan (Marrakech Street Circuit). This is the fourth year that Morocco’s cultural capital will host the event. The event will take place in Marrakech’s Agdal district known for its Atlas Mountain backdrops, palm trees, and large sprawling hotels.
The race circuit was named after the Crown Prince of Morocco. It is 2.99km long, has 12 tight turns, and is located on a semi-permanent street. In addition to the Formula E races, two other big events – the World Touring Car Championship and the Marrakech Atlas Etape cycling race take place here. During the years 2012-2017, the venue also hosted the Auto GP. Groupe Renault’s Sebastian Buemi, the fourth-youngest high scoring driver in the Formula 1 World Championship, was the first crowned victor in the 2016 season. He was followed by Mahindra Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist, and Mahindra’s Jérôme d’Ambrosio in Gen 2 era. Brazil’s FIA Formula E Championship Lucas di Grassi holds the fastest record at 1:20.296.
There will be interactive exhibits, electric go-karts, food stalls, and a driver’s autograph session. Entrance to the eVillage is 48 Dhs ($6 USD) and a seat in the grandstand can be purchased for under 160 Dhs ($20 USD.) Travelers to the area can also visit the Agdal gardens, located near the south of Dar El Makhzen, the Royal Palace, and the Medina. The event is sponsored by the Ministry de la Jeunesse et des Sports.
