Tetouan Celebrates 25th Film Festival

 

This past March 23th – 30th, 2019 the Mediterranean Film Festival took place in Tetouan. The collaboration of the Northern Moroccan city and MedFilm marked the 25th edition of the event.

Twelve films competed for the Tamouda Award-Grand Prix De La Ville De Tétouan. The Film Festival was chaired by musician Roberto Pischiutta. For the second year in a row, Italy triumphed with Edorado De Angelis’ film ‘Il Vizio della Speranza’ (the vice of hope). The film was awarded three prizes: the Grand Prix De La Ville De Tétouan, the ‘Mustapha Messnaoui’ prize and the best actress award for Pina Turco. Moroccan feature-length film submissions included: Jilali Ferhati;s feature length film ” Ultime Revolte”; The 3M unfinished stories, Sâad Chraibi.

The Tetouan film festival aims to bring together cinema lovers from around the world, directors, professionals, actors, and students and provides opportunities for attendants to exchange ideas on the diversity of the Mediterranean cinema. Last year 24 Mediterranean countries participated and 10,500 visitors from all over Morocco and abroad attended. The Moroccan public loves films and with the Marrakech and Tetouan Film Festivals expanding each year there is more opportunity for participation of this genre of art by locals.
