Tales And Adventures From Morocco, By Alison Morrison

Alice Morrison is a BBC Journalist and author of My 1001 Nights: Tales and Adventures From Morocco. In her book, Morrison paints a vivid image of the real Morocco with its bustling markets, stark and expansive desert landscapes along with its hospitable people. As someone who has fallen in love with Morocco, she is driven to give readers insight into daily life in the northern kingdom. Over 11 million travelers visit Morocco each year; she wants them to better understand the country’s history and culture.

“One of the things that really surprises me is how much history there is just under your feet. In Morocco, you walk on history, and that is a metaphor for the world,” says Morrison.

Morrison describes herself as an “Arabian and an Adventurer,” and has turned her passion into a career. Her impressive resume of travels includes completing the Tour D’Afrique, a 12,000 km bike ride from Cairo to Cape Town, running 250 km across the Sahara Desert in Marathon Des Sables and trekking across the Atlas Mountains to the Atlantic sea. She has also summited Mount Everest.

Morrison’s most recent trek across the Draa river took place from January to late March 2019. She embarked on a 1200km walk along the Draa Valley’s river which is the largest in Morocco. Travel across this massive region and landscape was led by her exceptional Berber trekking guides and dromedary camels. Morrison’s unique background and her ability to speak fluent Arabic has landed her unique opportunities like being asked to host the BBC2 series, Morocco to Timbuktu.

My 1001 Nights is available for purchase on Amazon and is published by Simon and Schuster. Her other books include Dodging Elephants, a story of racing across Africa on bike and Morocco to Timbuktu: An Arabian Adventure.
