Morocco will soon be welcoming Ivanka Trump to its capital city Rabat from November 6-8, 2019. After President Donald Trump launched the W-GDP initiative, an organization that aims to bring more opportunities to 50 million women living in the developing world, he renewed his commitment to a strong US-Morocco Relationship. The W-GDP will “further the strong partnership between the United States and Morocco,” said a Millennium Challenge Corp (MCC) statement. Representing the organization will be Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump. She will travel between Rabat and Casablanca to discuss female empowerment with Moroccan government officials, female business leaders, and other key local representatives. Accompanying Ivanka on her trip will be MCC’s CEO Sean Cairncross. MCC works to reduce poverty and stimulate the economy in developing countries by providing grants to institutions. In, June 2017, MCC offered a $450 million pact to Morocco “aimed to improve land productivity and education, two important priorities for the Government of Morocco,” said an MCC press release.
Trump and Cairncross’s trip will assess the development of the W-GDP initiative and the necessary next steps.
