Morocco’s Beach Soccer National Team Nominated for Africa Beach Cup

The Moroccan national beach soccer team has been nominated to participate as part of Group B in the 2021 Africa Beach Soccer Cup in Saly, Senegal. The tournament will be held between May 23, 2021 and May 29, 2021. According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), “the winner and losing finalist will qualify to represent Africa at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Russia 2021.”

The Final Africa Beach Soccer Cup draw:
Group A: Senegal – The Democratic Republic of the Congo – Tanzania – Uganda.
Group B: Egypt – Mozambique – Morocco – Seychelles.

Senegal is the defending champion of the tournament.  The tournament started in 2006, with Morocco appearing at eight of the cups, and finishing third in 2013. On the occasion, the Beach Soccer Cup was hosted in El Jadida, Morocco went on to beat Nigeria 7-2. While they never won the trophy, Egypt is the team that participated the most in the tournament with 10 appearances and finished third on four occasions.

Seychelles and Mozambique qualified for the finals a combined six times. Senegal leads in terms of victories, having won the event five times.

Senegal has qualified seven out of nine times for the World Cup with Nigeria following closely behind, qualifying for a total of six times.

The top two from each group will participate in the semi-finals. The winner of the competition and the finalist will represent Africa at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, scheduled for August 19th – 29th, 2021  in Russia.
