Morocco’s to Build Largest Dam in North with 30 Years of Water Supply

New $38

Morocco has set a goal to build the largest dam within the northern kingdom. The plan for the new Bni Mansour dam is to have a water storage capacity of 1 billion cubic meters. The investment cost to create it is 383 billion dirhams ($38 Billion USD). According to Morocco’s head of government, Saad Eddine El Othmani claims the dam should provide a steady water supply for at least the next three decades and serve the growing needs of the country’s economy and people.

The project is not the first time Morocco has directed it’s efforts at improving the quality and quantity of water for it’s citizens. Between the period 2017-2021, the Kingdom built 15 dams and established the inter-ministerial commission on water. These goals are in tandem with finding answers to water scarcity, addressing climate change issues, and helping to grow the country’s industrial and agricultural activities.

Currently, the Al Wadha Dam in the Taounate Province in the Fes-Meknes region is the second-largest dam in Africa and the largest in Morocco.
