Morocco, Top 5 In Aerospace

According to the Economist and other players in the global aeronautics sector, Morocco is making headway as an aerospace leader.

As a result of its strategic geographic position, Morocco is considered an essential  African base in aeronautical construction. The country’s northern city of Tangier is also home to the largest port in the Mediterranean;  Recently, the Economist ranked the kingdom as one of the top 5 global bases for the installation of aerospace subcontractors.

In the past five years, Morocco produced 17 billion MAD within the industry and it will continue to expand. The sector is expected to sell another 2.6 billion MAD by 2021. Once this happens the aerospace industry will have tripled its growth since the introduction of the Industrial Acceleration Plan (PAI) in 2014. Launched to further stimulate Morocco’s quickly evolving manufacturing sector, the PAI set a goal of raising GDP from the industrial sector from 14% to 23% by 2020 and to create 500,000 new jobs. The most recent data shows that Morocco is on track to achieving its goals.

Morocco manufactures almost 30% of its own aircraft. These include 5 at Boeing, 8 at Airbus, 8 at the Canadian Bombardier, 2 aircraft of the Chinese aircraft manufacturer Comac, 5 planes of the Brazilian Embraer and the SJ100 of the Russian Sukhoi.
