Morocco’s southernmost city Dakhla has been recognized for being a major contributor to promoting the North African country’s sports scene. On December 10, 2019, at the European City of Sports Award (ACES) ceremony held at the Brussels European Parliament, Dakhla was honored for its dedication to highlighting Morocco’s water sports and other athletics events.
In 2019 alone, the Western Sahara territory was home to several competitions. It organized the African Kiteboarding Championships, the Dakhla Marathon, an international “Morocco Swim Trek” race. The small city of 100,000 has beaches and sites dedicated sites to water sports, kitesurfing, golf, and track athletics. Dakhla officials and the royal kingdom has been working to integrate a strong infrastructure into the city. Arrival into Dakhla is easy, it has its own airport.
ACES is a Brussels based non-profit association. It annually recognizes organizations that work to improve the quality of life via sports, for all social classes.
