With the increasing number of travelers passing through Morocco’s airports, the National Airport Security Authority has committed to streamlining entry into morocco. Travelers arriving at Morocco’s international Marrakech Menara and Casablanca airports have long complained that filling out entry forms then passing through immigration can take well over an hour. In an effort to improve efficiency, Morocco’s Directorate General of National Security announced that visitors will no longer be required to fill out exit and entry cards. This change will be implemented from September 16, 2019, and is a response to the 14.24% increase of foreign travelers to Morocco from July 2018.
In addition to reducing the time to enter the Kingdom, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGST) and the General Directorate of Territorial Security are working with other countries to strengthen and preserve international security partnerships. Recently, DGST’s Abdellatif Hammouchi and Yassine Mansouri from the external intelligence agency (DGED) traveled to Italy to meet officials working in high-level security. This is one of several anti-terrorism trips the Moroccan office has taken to collaborate with European and Arab countries. Hammouchi has been recognized as one of Morocco’s masterminds. Pan African Magazine described him as a big threat to terrorists and named him one of Africa’s most influential people in 2019.
