The French Institute in Marrakech will welcome the African Dance Biennial in from March 23rd – 28th, 2020. This biennial is a platform for launching new projects, discovering new talents, presenting existing projects and hosting professionals from all over the world to contribute to the visibility and dissemination of contemporary creation.
The March 2020 Edition will be run by the Marrakech International Dance Festival “On marche” in Morocco and will see a change in its governance. Taoufiq Izeddiou, Director of “On marche”, has taken over the Biennial and surrounded himself with an artistic committee that will support him in the programming, orientation, and organization of the event.
Alongside Taoufiq, the artistic committee includes Salia Sanou (Burkina Faso), Faustin Linyekula and Virginie Dupray (DRC), Qudus Onikeku (Nigeria), Quito Tembe (Mozambique), Alioune Diagne (Senegal), Hafiz Ohaou (Tunisia) / France) and Gregory Maqoma (South Africa), as detailed by Sceneweb, a site specializing in current events in the performing arts.
Taoufiq Izeddiou claimed when interviewed by the HuffPost Morocco, that “he is delighted with the birth of this new structure and that of this future event which already announces a new era for contemporary African dance”. I hope this will allow those in charge of the region, the city and the Ministry of Culture to take stock of what we are doing.”
The African Dance Biennale aims to bring more visibility to contemporary African creation and to ensure its dissemination, particularly in Africa. The event is supported by the French Institute.
