Where to Shop in Sidi Ghanem, Marrakech

Shop in Sidi Ghanem, the Marrakech Industrial Zone and Urban, Artist Enclave.

Located 5 kilometers from the Marrakech medina, Sidi Ghanem is the industrial zone where artists and designers have their workshops and showrooms. This urban enclave is a reminder of New York’s SOHO district in the 1970’s where large loft spaces and concrete buildings are abound. Known as a mecca for architects and interior design enthusiasts this up and coming neighborhood serves as the perfect shopping excursion from Marrakech.

The Sid Ghanem district is chock full of local and made-for-export goods along with charming French eateries. Tangier-based fashion designer, Salima Abdel Wahab, Lighting Designer Henry Cath, and Laurence Landon are a few notable designers to seek out. Be sure to note that most shops are closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays.

WAHAB
Tangier-based fashion designer Salima Abdel Wahab sells her high-end fashion line of unique and trendy men’s and women’s fashion at her boutique in Sidi Ghanem. Wahab uses traditional Moroccan textiles to create a trendy line of pants, vests, jackets and handbags. Our favorite is a vest made from traditional Moroccan kilims and the boho bags made form the same fabric. Pieces are unique and one-of-a-kind and the price is reflective of this.

This may just be a one-stop shopping destination for most people heading to Sidi Ghanem. A collection of pottery including full service dinnerware including all sizes of plates, cups and saucers, tajines, tea glasses and cup, is spread out over the main floor and comes in a variety of colors. Head upstairs to admire the beautiful collection of candles and candleholders. Our favorites are the hurricane lantern covered in intricately cut leather to create magical Moroccan-style patterns when the candle is lit. The collection of bath towels and bathrobes is second to none and may just be where the towels in your hotel or riad are sourced.
